After the release of their third studio album Seasons last year, American Authors fans have been dying for more new music. And luckily for them, and us, today the indie quartet have blessed us with a full collection of songs to sing along to.

Counting Down, which dropped at midnight, is a collection of five songs, including four previously released singles and a new track titled “Sky’s the Limit.”

And in classic American Author’s fashion, the EP is full of tracks that get listeners hyped up and ready to tackle the day- regardless of whatever lies ahead.

Opening up the EP with the very catchy single “Brick by Brick,” Counting Down starts off on a high note.

A song about tackling your doubts head on, “Brick by Brick” is a positive anthem, perfect for anyone who needs an extra pick-me-up. With a great beat and lyrics that are easy to pick up halfway through the song, this track is a strong opener that will put you in a good mood instantly.

Following “Brick by Brick” is the romantic anthem “Counting Down,” which is quite literally about documenting the count down of returning back home and being reunited with those that you love.

With the use of gang vocals to help amplify the chorus during the second verse, the track leaves you feeling surrounded by positivity and love. A perfect reminder to reach out to those you haven’t seen in a while to let them know just how much they mean to you.

Up next is “Microphone,” a funky dance track about a longing to be heard, turning it up loud, and letting loose while the rest of the world seems to be “on fire.”

A perfect track to represent the current state of the world where we are all dying to attend concerts and go wild in a crowd, “Microphone” is the best track to throw on for an impromptu dance party around your living room while pretending to be in the crowd at an American Authors show.

Following “Microphone” is another up-beat dance track, “Best I Can.”

An electro-pop track about loving someone to the best of your ability, “Best I Can” features electronic duo SEEB as the creators of the captivating beat. And as a song about promising an everlasting love, even if it’s not as shiny and perfect as other relationships may claim to be, we can see “Best I Can” easily becoming a top 40 hit of the year.

The EP’s final track, “Sky’s the Limit,” is about conquering your dreams and not accepting any limits on your goals. It encourages listeners to pursue their aspirations, whether they be career goals or personal goals, and leaves you feeling empowered and self assured.

And though the state of the world is a little messy right now, this track leaves us hopeful for a future where we can all live our best lives of peace, equity and equality.
