The media has been buzzing this week with questions about Ariana Grande’s potential attendance and performance at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards. Will she attend? Will she perform? Is she fighting with Grammy’s producers? What will she wear?

But Ariana quickly put all rumors to rest this Thursday night after an interview with Grammy’s producer Ken Ehrlich claiming the singer denied the opportunity to perform due to time constraints went public.

“mhmmm here it is ! “too late for her to pull something together.” The singer tweeted along with a screenshot of Ehrlich’s Associated Press interview.

In the interview, Ehrlich tells the AP that he and his team had asked the pop star to perform and that they had been having discussions over the past few months. However, the singer “felt it was too late to pull something together” given how soon the show was coming up.

Ehrlich then added that he wishes Grande could have performed at the annual awards, saying “She’s a great artist and I’d love to get her in the show this year.”

But Grande, who is nominated for two Grammys this year, has a different recollection of their conversations.

With Variety breaking the news yesterday that the nominated singer would not only not be performing at the show but would also not be performing, rumors began circling that this decision was due to an argument with the Recording Academy.

The article, which documents Grande’s alleged argument with the show’s producers, claims that  Ariana declined an offer to perform after the Academy refused to let her perform her latest single, “7 Rings,” unless it was part of a medley of songs chosen by producers- not by Grande herself.

While Grande had previously kept quiet about all things Grammy related- including the show using her as a promotion for the show despite this silent battle- she broke her silence tonight.

In a four tweet mini “rant” addressed to Ehrlich, the pop star came clean to fans about why she was actually not going to be performing, including her feelings of stifled expression and lack of freedom of creativity.

“It was when my creativity & self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend,” the singer wrote.

“[I]offered 3 different songs. it’s about collaboration. it’s about feeling supported. it’s about art and honesty. not politics. not doing favors or playing games. it’s just a game y’all.. and i’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me.”

As Variety writers Jem Aswald and Shirley Halperin said, the decision to not include Grande in the nightly performances will likely affect Grammys ratings and viewership, due to Grande’s current status in the pop music world.

“With this development, the Grammys find themselves not only without a twice-nominated artist whom they have been using to promote the show, but also without one of the most vital artists of the moment.”

Now, only time will tell how her response will affect not only this year’s ratings, but treatment of female artists in the future.

According to additional reports by Variety, a similar incident happened last year with pop singer Lorde, who was also offered a slot to perform, but not allowed to perform a single from “Melodrama,” which at the time was also nominated for Album of the Year. Lorde also turned down the performance slot.

Erlich has yet to comment.
