Fresh off his two award win at last night’s Billboard Music Awards, Brendon Urie of Panic! at the Disco met up with a Billboard reporter to discuss his winnings, his latest collab with Taylor Swift, and the “Me!” video show stopper: Benjamin Button.
“[It seems like] Panic! is just at a steady climb, and things just keep getting better and better. Does it feel that way to you too?” The reporter asked Urie.
“Absolutely! And I don’t understand why,” Urie laughed. “I can’t figure out why, but I’m not going to question it. I’m just incredibly happy.”
Before diving into the career of the Rock Song and Rock Album of the Year winner, the reporter then took a brief moment to ask Urie about his latest release, “Me!” – the collaboration with Taylor Swift that has sent Panic! and Swift fans into a frenzy.
“How did the [collab] actually happen. Did she herself call you?”
“Yeah, I was on tour this past January and she texted me this very sweet long text,” Urie explained. “I teared up at the end because I didn’t expect something like that for a first text, for the start of a relationship.”
“But She sent me the song, and I just gushed over her, basically reciprocating the love and I haven’t had the song out of my head since,” Urie laughed. “It’s been about four months, so not a terribly long time but long enough! I’m proud of myself, I kept it [a secret].”
As for if fans will ever get to see Urie and Swift perform the song together again after last night’s performance, Urie smiled coyly.
“We’ve talked about some performances at certain shows.”
Before moving on though, the reporter made sure to ask about the “Me!” video’s star- Taylor Swift’s new Kitten, Benjamin Button.
“When I held Benjamin, it was fine, he was like ‘Eh. You’re fine.'” Urie stated. “But when I gave him to Taylor he just started purring and never stopped purring. And that’s when she asked if he was available and they were like ‘yeah, yeah’ and she bought him right then.”
“So what’s next for Panic! Obviously you have all the Taylor stuff happening, but what about you guys?” the reporter then asked.
“I am home now and I am taking some time off, chilling, streaming,” Urie laughed. “I’m hanging out with my fans online and it’s amazing.”
“I thought I would take a little more time off but I’ve already started some music. Not anything planned in mind, but I can’t help myself.”
“I don’t think it’ll be too long before another Panic! record.”
