Welcome back, Bring Me The Horizon.

The UK rock band have released their latest single and a corresponding music video and it is one you will not forget any time soon.

“Parasite Eve,” which made it’s debut at midnight, is the latest single by the band, following 2019’s “Ludens”

Taking a step back from “amo,” which also debuted in 2019 and received heavy criticism for being a sonic 180 from the band’s previous releases, “Parasite Eve,” brings heavier instrumentals- reminiscent of the band’s album “That’s The Spirit.”

With the repetitive lyrics “Please remain calm / The end has arrived / We cannot save you / Enjoy the ride …… Don’t call it a warning / This is a war,” the track discusses feelings of anxiety that come with uncertainty- specifically in this case, the end of the world as we know it.

In an interview with Kerrang, frontman Oil Sykes shared that the track was initially inspired by climate change and the singer’s fears of the world dying as people began to care less and less about it. But after working on it while the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread, the band worried the release would be in “bad taste” as it was too “close to the bone.”

But after a few weeks of quarantining and watching the global anxiety playout on TV, the band had a change of heart.

“I was worried about it, it was scaring me, I needed to process it. My main way of processing stuff these days is writing songs and lyrics and getting it out. I did a 180 and thought, ‘If it feels uncomfortable to talk about it that probably means I’m talking about something important.”

As for where the name “Parasite Eve” came from, that also came pre-pandemic, as Sykes shared that he chose the name after an old PlayStation horror survival game of the same title.
