The alternative music scene is in mourning today after news broke that pop-punk band Transit’s former guitarist Tim Landers has passed away.

Landers, who was a founding member of Transit in 2008, was a Massachusetts native. He passed early February 2nd, 2019.

Following his departure from Transit in 2014, Landers continued working in music on projects Misser and Off & On.

In 2016, Lander’s released his latest album with his final project, Cold Collective. Alongside bandmates Paul DeBenedictis, Darren Scullo, and Trevor McCarthy, Landers was at work in the studio recording Cold Collective’s sophomore album.

Cold Collective confirmed the news of Lander’s passing on their facebook page this morning.

It was just last year that Landers came clean in an instagram post about his struggles with depression and substance abuse, even leaving his personal gmail account in the comments for anyone who needed help to reach out to.

Well, here goes nothing: I’ve struggled with my mental health my whole life. I’ve been battling drug addiction for years. I never wanted anyone to know- I was embarrassed and overwhelmed. I didn’t have the strength to ask anyone for help. Instead, I self-medicated myself to the brink of death, time and time again. The best decision I have ever made was admitting I need help and that I can’t beat addiction on my own. I went to detox and rehab and have been working on my recovery ever since. It’s not easy. My addiction manifests in many compulsive behaviors and I’ve jeopardized and destroyed recording sessions over the last few months. I’ve been sitting on 100+ songs I wrote in and about my struggles, and I’ve decided to start releasing them on my own terms. I don’t want to hide this part of myself anymore, because it is a huge aspect of who I am. “Don’t Forget To Leave” is a song about feeling hopeless. Many more to come. If you are struggling with mental health or addiction- please speak up. I sincerely wish I had sooner. Be careful, think about who you love. Treatment helps, therapy helps, medication helps- don’t be scared to get professional help. If you need someone to talk to and don’t know where to turn, this is my personal email: terencetimothylanders@gmail.com “Don’t Forget To Leave” is on iTunes + Apple Music now. Available on all streaming services later this week. (There’s a link in my bio) Love, Tim Landers

According to Alt Press, Lander’s girlfriend Nicole Theiss also took to social media to grieve the loss of her “soulmate,” and give a little insight into Lander’s final days.

“I found out some time into our relationship [Tim] suffered from some mental health issues and addiction. He fought the fight, he went to war last year, did all the things you’re supposed to do to get help and back on your feet. He was coming on to almost 9 months sober and unfortunately this terrible sickness won with one slip.

“I will never be as eloquent with my words as he was. But Tim, you were an amazing partner, musician, brother, and son. You worked harder than anyone I’ll ever know. You deserved such a full life of love, happiness and success more than anyone. I hope your mind is finally at peace. You deserved the world. I love you more than you’ll ever know. Always and forever. To the moon and back.”

Rest in peace, Tim. The scene will not be the same without you.
