If you’ve been following Crown The Empire, you know that they’ve certainly had their fair share of turbulence throughout the years.
From their struggles, they created an album that reflected what they’ve dealt with as individuals and band as a whole, harnessing those emotions to be projected in their music.
Today marks the official release date of “Sudden Sky”, their fifth studio LP and what I consider to be their best album yet.
Last year, the band released their first single “20/20” in July while they were on the road with Warped Tour. This helped set the stage to release a few more singles including “what i am” in September, the title track “Sudden Sky” in April, and “MZRY” in June.
As Crown The Empire has done in the past, they open with the track “(X)” that is essentially a prelude to the rest of the album, a sort of guidance into the story that drove them to write the album in the first place.
While it may share similarities with some of their previous work, the general vibe is that it feels new and refreshing. Not in the way that it is a brand new release, but it shares a sense of vulnerability that hasn’t yet been this visibly present in their older releases.
Given a decent portion of the album was already available to the public before “Sudden Sky” released today, It seemed as though Andy, Brandon, Hayden, and Brent had an idea of giving the listener a method to the madness.
Below you’ll see the official track list for “Sudden Sky”:
- (X)
- 20/20
- what i am
- BLURRY (out of place)
- Red Pills
- MZRY
- Under the Skin
- SEQU3NCE
- March of the Ignorant
- Sudden Sky
The most important aspect of album is the feeling of relatability and not just vulnerability. On their instagram feed, in the days leading up to the release, they posted a description of each track in order, what those tracks meant to them and what drove them get creative with their emotions.
Rather than shy away from the demons they’ve battled and continue to battle, they’ve embraced that darkness and used it to write an album that so many fans can relate to in one way or another.
“Sudden Sky” shouldn’t be classified as just their “fifth studio album” but rather, this album is their life and their struggles.
It’ll be on repeat for quite awhile and we look forward to seeing them during their upcoming tour with Attila, Veil of Maya, Giddeon and Hawk.
If you plan on attending one of the shows let us know where you’ll be and of course let us know which track is your favorite from “Sudden Sky”.
