Dawes Release Official “I Love L.A.” Cover

Following their star studded live performance of the track “I Love L.A.” at the 67th Grammy Awards this past Sunday, Los Angeles natives Dawes have released an official recording of the track for streaming.

Originally released by Randy Newman in 1983, the track debuted to mixed reviews. But after a Nike campaign used the track in an ad for the ’84 Olympics which were held in the title city, the track gained global recognition and quickly became a staple in Los Angeles related pop culture.

Not shying away from the negative and often brushed aside aspects of the city, such as the large homeless population, the track finds a balance between glorifying the glitz and glamor that non-LA residents dream about and calling out the reality that at its core it’s just a city like every other city in the world. It has its good, it has its bad, but mostly- it’s home. Something Dawes continue to acknowledge and honor in this new release.

With all proceeds from the new single going to The Recording Academy and MusiCare’s combined fundraising efforts to aid victims of the Los Angeles fires that devastated the city earlier this year, the band are also continuing their own efforts to lift up and support their community.

Having been victims of the fires themselves, which not only destroyed their studio and equipment but their homes as well, the group have been putting in maximum effort to help those who may not have the same resources to rebuild- performing not only at the Grammys but also at the FireAid benefit concert last Thursday to help raise funds for various local charities.
