After announcing the release of his upcoming album These Things Happen Too earlier this month, alt rapper G-Eazy is now giving fans a further look into the release by debuting a brand new single.
Titled “Breakdown” and featuring popstar Demi Lovato, the new track explores the negative affects of fame and how even when it appears you have it all on the outside, you can still be struggling mentally and emotionally on the inside. Especially when the whole world is seemingly waiting for you to fail.
In addition to the new track, the duo also released a new music video that gives fans a glimpse into the track’s inspiration- especially in relation to their relationships with the media.
With both of the performers being no strangers to bad press- specifically surrounding their romantic relationships or drug use (both rumored and confirmed), the video begins by displaying various headlines written about both Lovato and G-Eazy covering up their faces. Ranging from “Demi Lovato: Shocking 911 Call” to “G-Eazy Gets Cozy with Mystery Woman,” the video immediately sets a somber tone that lets fans know this track is not going to be the bop Lovato is famous for.
Then continuing to show each artist in rooms separated by one wall while they sing/rap their hearts out about how misconstrued their public personas have become and how difficult it can be to constantly be scrutinized by the world while they are fighting their own internal battles- the track gives fans a glimpse at what it truly is like to be amongst the most famous in the world.
You can stream “Breakdown” out now, wherever you stream music.
