With nearly 20 years of songwriting experience under his belt, UK based artist Ed Cosens is ready to give listeners a taste of his own musical prowess with the release of his debut album, Fortunes Favour.

Set to premiere April 9th, the album will be the first solo release by Cosens in his decade spanning career and will give listeners a glimpse into the inner workings of the former Reverend and the Makers band member.

With songs about love and loss, navigating life as an adult, and focusing his lyricism in reality, Fortunes Favour is set to be a soundtrack to being alive- channeling raw emotions and honesty.

And while there are still three months to go until the album releases, Cosens has provided us with a few sneak peeks into what’s to come by way of three new singles. The latest being last week’s “Madeleine.”

Following “If” and “The River,” “Madeleine” is a dark love song about realizing the person you love is not good for you, despite how much you want things to work out between the two of you.

Focusing heavily on Cosens’ vocals and smooth guitar styling, the single gives listeners a view into the less desirable sides of romance and follows up the romantic undertones of the previous two tracks. But instead of a healthy relationship, “Madeleine” navigates trying to find your footing when someone else has a hold you on.

“Deep down, you know you’re going to get hurt but desire can be a powerful drug,” Cosens shares of the inspiration behind the song. “When mixed with someone who knows they’re in control, it can be potent. The more you come back to taste this heady combination, the more you find yourself pulled under their spell and perhaps, the more you don’t care.”

Alongside the new single comes the third installment in a short film series Cosens is creating to supplement his album, titled “Volume III, Madeleine.”

Starring dancers Dom Coffey and Emily Barber, the video series showcase a beautifully choreographed storytelling of the tracks through dance. Connecting each of the three- and soon to be four- songs through a visual narrative that allows listeners to see themselves in the lyrics and add another layer of connection, the videos even further drive home the idea that Fortunes Favour will be an album dedicated to human emotion and experience.

You can stream “Madeleine” out now, as well as watch the first three volumes of the short film, and be sure to stay tuned for Cosens’ upcoming album Fortunes Favour out April 9th.
