It is not often that you hear an artist take another artist’s song, change up the entire vibe, and pull it off almost better than the original artist did. But Fab The Duo are here to show fans of late 2000s pop music that they are capable of doing just that by tackling the iconic 2008 hit “So What.”

Originally a punk-rock inspired anthem by P!nk, “So What” made waves in the music world both in terms of lyrical content and the iconic music video, which featured the singer’s then estranged-husband as the antagonist. With a message that essentially said “who gives a shit, I’m P!nk,” “So What” quickly became an empowerment anthem and reached the number 1 position on charts internationally- not to mention a staple in any pre-2010 throwback playlists.

But now, with 13 years between the song’s original debut and 2021, it has finally hit a time where reimagining the iconic number seemed like a feasible plan- and after now hearing the results we can confirm: there is no better duo to have taken on the task than Fab The Duo.

Retitling the song “So What – Sad Version,” Fab The Duo shared their rendition earlier this month and it sounds exactly like you’d want it to.

Giving the punchy original a stripped back, piano driven melody and transforming the vocals into a beautifully complimenting duet- the two singers added an additional element of broadway-esque grandeur to an otherwise straight forward single.

And thought the lyrics remain identical to P!nk’s version, the alternate style and instrumentals almost change the meaning behind the track. Instead of a straight forward “screw you,” the “Sad Version” has almost a larger sense of passion being it- implying a long awaited rise back to the top that can only come with fighting your way to success. Not just reclaiming your voice, but actively fighting for it and convincing yourself that you can kill it. Regardless of what those around you say.

Fab The Duo made their musical debut in 2019 with their first single “American Icon.” Slowly but surely making a name for themselves in their home of New York City, the duo then began to become night life staples pre-covid, performing at several notable venues throughout the city.

Since the pandemic has now put a hold on live music until further notice, the duo have now focused on taking their talents digitally, releasing their first EP Our Love is Resistance last summer.

Showcasing their talents as well as their pride being one of the first interracial gay couples to find a footing in the industry- it’s no secret that Fab The Duo are just getting started. And we can’t wait to see what comes next.
