Introducing FEMME HOUSE, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping womxn and non-binary folks find their footing in the production side of the music industry.
Created by multi talented feminists and musicians LP Giobbi, hermixalot, and mini bear, FEMME HOUSE was formed as way to “create and foster more equitable opportunity for womxn and non-binary people in the technical areas of music.” Specifically in the worlds of production, engineering and mixing- the organization aims to help those who are presented with less opportunity get their foot in the door of the industry.
And with less than 2% of music producers being womxn, their aid could not be more needed or come at a better time.
Since their formation at Moogfest in 2019, FEMME HOUSE have expanded their reach to both in person and online events that focus on learning new skills and networking in order to create a supportive community around their mission.
Having held over 18 free workshops to date, the organization recently expanded their reach to online classes- which are taught by co-founder mini bear and teach patrons some of the basics of music production.
Currently FEMME HOUSE offers two classes titled “Building Your Beats,” and “Intro to Music Production with Ableton Live,” which begin at $28 and are free for womxn of color. Both courses come with a packet of downloadable notes, quizzes and video content to aid students in their learning.
The organization also has several YouTube videos providing viewers with tips and tricks as well as introductions to production software, including Ableton Live.
