Synth-pop band LANY has been steadily blowing up the alternative music scene for the past few years. With two full length albums, several EPs and nearly six headlining tours under their belt, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that they are here to stay and make their mark on the music scene.

LANY

But this Saturday, while the rest of Boston’s House of Blues was eagerly awaiting LANY’s 90 minute set, we were waiting for and falling head over heels for their opener, 25-year-old FLETCHER.

FLETCHER

Performing two nights in a row as LANY’s support this weekend, FLETCHER not only helped prepare the crowd for the indie band’s set but also set out to show Boston just what she was capable of.

Opening with her latest single, “If You’re Gonna Lie,” which dropped a little over two weeks ago, the singer immediately got the audience moving and grooving to her subtle pop  music, giving them a hint of what was to come for the next half hour.

With deep and groovy bass tracks offsetting FLETCHER’s hard hitting lyrics about breakups and heartbreak, the entire venue instantly took to her sound and it was clear from the smiles on the faces of the crowd that she had gained new fans instantly.

Between songs she even took a moment to connect with these new fans about her love for LANY and hatred of relationships gone south.

“I’ve been a huge fan of LANY forever, so it is so exciting for me to tour with them,” the singer told the crowd. “I once even brought a date to a LANY show.”

“Do any of you have exes that you hate? I feel like if you listen to LANY you have to have a bad ex. Well I wrote all of my songs about an ex that I now hate so here we go!” she laughed.

She then continued on with a few unreleased songs including “All Love,” “One Too Many,” and “About You,” in addition to 2016’s “Wasted Youth.

And though she is a relatively new artist, with only one EP and a handful of singles out, FLETCHER made sure to get the crowd as involved in her set as much as possible- including an audience initiated sing along during her cover of “Tequila” by Dan + Shay.

But no song got the crowd as excited as her finale track, “Undrunk.”

As the likely lead single off of her upcoming album, “Undrunk” has been the singer’s highest ranking single to date, peaking at number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 16 on the Mainstream Top 40 Chart.

Fitting perfectly in theme with the rest of FLETCHER’s set, “Undrunk” tells the story of regrets following a relationship and the pain that comes with a love being lost. Something the Boston crowd seemed to relate to quite a lot, given the amount of singing along.

The singer even dove off the stage during her final verse and into the barricade to get up close and personal and sing along with those in the front row.
