Gojira Take Home First Grammy Award

Gojira Take Home First Grammy Award

Gojira made their own Grammy history this week after securing the win for Best Metal Performance at the 67th Annual Awards this past Sunday.

Nominated alongside collaborators Marina Viotti and Victor le Manse for their track “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” which they debuted this past summer in an unforgettable live performance at the Paris Olympic Games, the band beat out fellow metal heavy hitters Spiritbox, Knocked Loose (featuring Poppy), Judas Priest and Metallica.

This nomination and subsequently win marked the third time Gojira earned recognition from the Recording Academy, following nominations in 2017 for both Best Metal Performance for their track “Silvera” and Best Rock Album for ‘Magma,’ as well as their their 2022 nomination for Best Metal Performance for “Amazonia.”

And while this may not be their first nomination, nor the band’s first ever award, this achievement marks yet another milestone in a series of major moments for the band- being the first metal act to ever perform at an Olympic ceremony and now beating Metallica, who remain the highest awarded band in the Metal Performance category with 7 previous awards under their belt.

As for what’s next for the now Grammy Award winners? They’re currently working on their next full length album, which will hopefully release sometime this year.
