Idle Wave first landed on our radar with the release of their single “Wolves,” earlier this year and quickly made themselves known as a band we did not want to miss out on.
With unique lyricism, hard hitting emotions and tracks that resonate with listeners from the first notes to the last verse, Idle Wave are steadily creating a collection of music that will stand the test of time, and today their new single “Stay,” serves as a perfect addition to their repertoire.
Inspired by the moving out of one of his roommates, frontman Guy Battaglia found himself rethinking his relationships with those around him- from friends, roommates, and relationships, he became aware of how many people have “moved out” of his life and became inspired to write a track about the emotions that exist on both sides of that process. Thus creating “Stay.”
“Stay is about the people in my life moving on without me,” Battaglia shared. “The production of the song is proof to myself that I can change and move on as well.”
“You have to let things go from time to time and sometimes that includes people. At the end of the day, you shouldn’t think any less of them.”
Using a stripped down instrumental backing, the track focuses heavily on Battaglia’s voice and lyrics- which despite being simplistic pack an emotional punch with a heavy sense of vulnerability. Confronting his own internal insecurities and coming to terms with the inability to make people stay if they are on a different path, the track pulls at your heartstrings as you listen and recount any of the changes in your own life.
In addition to the new single, Idle Wave also released an accompanying music video, which starts off showing Battaglia singing in an empty room before moving into a separate room with a projector playing clips of past Idle Wave shows and recounting memories of when we could all be in rooms together- giving the track an added sense of sadness.
