It’s officially May and it’s officially Friday- both of which mean that today is full of brand new music, including our special feature for the day: Jeffrey James.
A singer/songwriter from Nashville, James made his debut in the music scene in 2014 with the release of his 7 track album “I’m Wide Awake.”
In the years following his initial release, the songwriter went on to write and record his second full length album “Walls” in 2016 and EP “Unsaid,” the following year.
After gaining notoriety from his releases, James earned opening slots for acts such as X Ambassadors, Hanson and Rachel Platten, in addition to various festival slots and writing credits for various other artists.
And as though James had not been busy enough over the past few years, he released his latest EP, “East London” just earlier this year.
But despite the recent release, James has not stopped working on new music, which brings us to today’s brand new track- “Aftermath.”
A fusion of pop and soul, “Aftermath” is a ballad about falling in love and holding onto that love above all else.
With beautifully crafted lyricism, the track also shows off the songwriter’s writing and vocal range, with a light piano back track to further ‘set the mood.’
“It’s about watching a love grow more than you thought was possible,” James shared. “You realize it’s strong enough to make it through any situation and even if everything fell apart around you, you’d have the strength of the bond to help you both rebuild.”
In addition to his new single, James has also recently announced his upcoming appearance on NBC’s Songland, a reality competition putting upcoming songwriters in front of some of music’s biggest names in order to create the next big hit.
On May 4th (Monday), James will compete on the competition and attempt to win over judges Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean, and Shane McAnally. The show airs at 10pm EST and features musical guest Martina McBride.
“Aftermath,” is available to stream now, and be sure to tune into NBC Monday night to catch James as he competes to write the decade’s next big song.
