Massachusetts own Jen Janet is here to make her voice heard with her new single “Possession.”
Released earlier this morning, “Possession” is the latest track from the Boston based singer-songwriter and the first solo release since her 2017 EP “Dangerous.”
Taking a step away from the snyth-pop infused sounds of her past, “Possession” shows listeners that Janet is more than just a pop star- and that both her vocal range and songwriting are not genre bound.
Inspired by her love of metal and heavier rock music, the song features darker tones and switches out the synthesizers for driving electric guitar and percussion as the singer tells the story of a toxic relationship coming to a head.
And in addition to the song’s release, Janet also released a new music video, channeling her passion in multi-media art to give viewers a movie-like experience.
Inspired by her love for all things macabre and spooky, the track’s accompanying music video features Janet in the throws of possession as an aide and priest attempt to rid her of her demons.
“This song and video illustrates the idea of belonging to someone, but through the idea of demonic possession,” Janet shares. “For example, you can “belong to” or be controlled by someone with more authority than yourself, and resent the person as a result.”
“That was originally what the song was written about, and I decided that a fun way to visually represent this was with a demonic possession. I’ve always been fascinated by the supernatural and I watch many horror movies, so this was a fun way to explore the horror genre through music and video.”
You can stream “Possession” now, and stay tuned to Jen Janet’s social media pages for updates on all future releases and side-projects.
