Jon Walker has never let us down when it comes to his musical endeavors.
From his early days as the bassist in iconic emo band Panic! At The Disco, to his stint as founding member and co-vocalist in The Young Veins, to his now decade long solo career, Walker has consistently kept fans entertained and on their toes, with a variety of genres and lyrical content under his belt.
So three days ago when Walker tweeted teasing fans with the potential of a One Direction cover, we knew that he couldn’t and wouldn’t possibly let us down.
And now, with the official track available for listening, we are pleased to report- he didn’t.
Covering the 2015 One Direction single “If I Could Fly,” which was one of the band’s final releases prior to their 2016 hiatus, Walker increases the song’s tempo a bit while adding a bit of a folk swing byway of vocals and light guitar strumming.
Originally a piano driven, intimate feeling (though somewhat somber) track, Walker’s version lightens the mood- giving the lyrics a slightly more optimistic feeling and leaving listeners feeling as though they are surrounded by warmth and optimism.
A perfect reminder of the bassist’s musicianship and vocal abilities, “If I Could Fly” has us ready to hear more new music from Walker. Hopefully in the near future.
