Jon Walker, unofficially known as the king of the emo internet, is now taking on a new role as the king of the podcast.

Available on Youtube, Spotify, and soon Apple Podcasts, Walker’s new podcast, aptly titled “Jon Walker’s Podcast” made its debut this past Friday.

After rising to fame and touring the world as the bassist in pop-rock band Panic! At The Disco, and later his side project, The Young Veins, Walker decided to take a step back from the music world in 2010. He had grown tired of touring and the constant demand for new sound, and wanted to take time away from the pressure and spend time with his family.

It was then that Walker, alongside his wife Cassie, sold all of their belongings and moved to Costa Rica for a six month journey that later sparked not only new music, but also a book.

Now, years later, Walker has released his first solo EP in four years, “Impending Bloom” and has started his own podcast- with the first episode featuring the very special guest, his wife, Cassie Walker.

Having recently released her first book, titled “Everything is Moving,” Cassie spends the majority of the podcast talking to Walker about their past, including how they met, and how that led her to become an author.

“We met in high school,” Cassie shares. “Though we went to different high schools.”

The pair started dating their junior year, and have been together ever since- and through Cassie’s many career changes.

After originally graduating high school, Mrs. Walker moved to Michigan to attend Hope College. It was at Hope that she planned to study dance, and loaded up on a variety of dance courses in hopes of pursuing a career as a ballerina.

Unfortunately, though, right before her big move, Cassie broke an ankle, and was unable to participate in her first few months of school.

It was this injury that sparked Cassie’s first career change. No longer did she want to dance, but instead she wanted to help people- like herself- heal.

Cassie then moved back home at 19 to pursue a degree in psychology, but it was around this time that Jon began to tour with Panic! and Cassie realized she wasn’t sure if she wanted a career as demanding as being a doctor.

“It was really difficult for me to choose between those two things,” Cassie shared. “It made me realize that I didn’t want to be in this kind of all or nothing career. I wanted to have a little bit more flexibility so that I could share in [Jon’s] all or nothing career and we could build a life together.”

Shortly after she received her degree, Cassie ended up deciding not to pursue a medical career- after working in a hospital exposed her to the less helpful and hopeful side of medical care.

“I feel like I saw how the sausage was made, if you will, and I realized that from that position I wasn’t going to be able to make the kind of changes in health care that I thought I was going to be able to make.”

This led Cassie to change career paths again. Now, to pursue being a pilates instructor, before both her and Jon took a six month trip to Costa Rica.

It was this trip that sparked Cassie to start journaling, which eventually turned into her book “Everything is Moving.”

“My whole life I loved to read, and the thought of being an author was very enticing to me,” Cassie explained.
