Latewaves are continuing the hype up for the release of their debut album this week with the release of their new single “Sympathy (and Validation).”

Released as the third track off of the band’s upcoming album Hell To Pay (June 4) and following “Extra Pale” and “Enough is Enough,” “Sympathy (and Validation)” continues on the band’s path of writing emotionally self aware and relatable music.

A fusion of being vulnerable and also self-sufficient, this track sounds as if 2010 Go Radio and The Wonder Years combined for the ultimate anthem of pop punk music.

Lyrically exploring the process of accepting the fact that all of us need a little validation and support sometimes, as well as general feelings of apathy surrounding life and existence as a whole, “Sympathy (and Validation)” allows listeners to see themselves in the song while remaining relatable to fans of all mental states.

“Sympathy and Validation almost didn’t make the record. We went into the studio with only a verse and a chorus but our producers, Vinnie Caruana and Brett Romnes, convinced us that there was something there,” the band shares.

“What really tied it all together was the big intro/interlude where we just get to wail after an open hi hat count in. The track starts at 100 and we try our darndest to keep the energy maxed out for the entire song. It’s also fun because we take some of the poppiest music on the record and proceed to dress it with some of the darkest lyrics. It’s essentially a voicemail you leave your friend when you’re having a panic attack. Your brain is racing a mile a minute with so many ups and downs and you’re convinced that if you could just connect with someone and have them validate your feelings you could maybe find some semblance of peace.”

You can stream “Sympathy (& Validation)” out now, wherever you stream music, and stay tuned for Latewaves’ upcoming album Hell To Pay, out June 4th.
