LIMBS are getting emotional and personal with the release of their new single “I Used To Be You.”

Debuted yesterday via Outburn Online, “I Used To Be You” officially hit streaming services this morning and gives fans an inside look at the mind of frontman Austin McAuley.

In an interview with Outburn, the singer shared how the song was inspired by his drive to move forward and start living a healthier, positive life following years of unhealthy coping mechanisms and less than ideal relationships.

“‘I Used To Be You’ was written as a reflection of my past, riddled with toxic relationships, substance abuse and struggling to cope with the loss of my father,” he explained.

“The song is an introspective look into the person I became when life was at its darkest, but narrates how I was able to overcome adversity and better myself, for my own sake and those around me.”

Opening on a groovy guitar riff that then launches full force into the track’s heavy metal intro, “I Used To Be You” starts off strong, with audible energy pumping through your speakers.

Using clean vocals to drive home the chorus, the track leaves listeners feeling somewhat haunted- feeling the pain and emotion of McAuley’s voice come through as he sings lyrics such as “all my efforts were mistakes bringing out the worst in me. You changed me,” and “Don’t try and tell me this doesn’t sound just like defeat.”

But where there are hints of defeat, the track also leaves a glimmer of hope- encouraging listeners to acknowledge the parts of themselves that they wish to change and working towards creating healthier lifestyle for themselves- mentally or physically.
