The House of Blues was getting loose and dancing with their juice last Wednesday as hip-pop sensation Lizzo twerked her way across the stage and into everyone’s hearts

Making her way across the globe on her Cuz I Love You Tour, Lizzo has been steadily gaining attention as one of both the hip-hop and pop scenes’ rising star. With three albums and a now completed sold out tour under her belt, Lizzo has gone from a hustling artist to a household name with her body positive lyrics and impressive flute solos.

And luckily for all of those at House of Blues, she brought not only all of her talents, but also her label mate, Tayla Parx to help wow the crowd.

With Ms. Parx taking the stage around 8pm, the crowd began to get warmed up for the rest of the night, dancing and singing along to her songs “I Want You” and “Mama Ain’t Raise no Bitch.”

And though her set featured a majority of her new album’s tracks, including “Homiesexual,” and “Me vs. Us,” no songs got the crowd moving quite like the three covers Parx performed as part of her “Tayla Made” feature, consisting of songs she had a part in writing.

“I appreciate you guys coming out here and those of you singing along, now I have a few songs you all might know so that you all can sing along too.”

Parx then launched into a rendition of “Love Lies” by Normani and Khalid, “7 Rings,” by Ariana Grande, and “High Hopes,” by Panic! At the Disco, which got the entire crowd moving and shaking before she exited the stage.

Then, with a stage slowly being transformed before their eyes from Parx minimalistic backing to a full fledged Club Lizzo, the crowd began to buzz with anticipation.

What would Lizzo be wearing? What would she sing first? Would she play her flute?

All these questions were brushed aside as soon as 9:15 came around and everyone’s favorite headliner hit the stage.

Kicking things off with her album title and single “Cuz I Love You,” Lizzo took the stage in a glitter covered black leotard and surrounded by matching dancers.

Immediately the crowd went wild, and before she could even finish her first song, a standing ovation took place, resulting in the singer shushing the crowd so that she could continue on.

Then, surrounded by her dancers and a light up DJ stand with her name on it, the songstress launched into some of her older tracks, including “Water Me,” “Worship,” and “Donna Summer/Fitness” before taking a moment to thank the crowd for supporting her career.

“Thank you for being the safety net of self love at the bottom of my sadness or turmoil. No matter how I feel that day, when I walk out on stage you guys are my self live.” Lizzo told the audience.

“I’m surrounded by beautiful people and when I’m low they pick me back up. And tonight we are going to practice a mantra because I need you to hear it, Boston. I love you, you are beautiful, and you can do anything. When you’re looking in the mirror at yourself I want you to say that. I love you, you are beautiful, and you can do anything.”

The queen of self love then went on to sing two of her best positivity anthems “Truth Hurts,” and “Soulmate,” before taking another moment to talk to the audience about the current political climate in America.

“I took another DNA test…,” she started, referencing her previous song’s lyrics. “Turns out I’m 100 percent capable of making my own decisions about what I do with my body. I think it should be illegal for men to vote on what females can do.”

This sentiment hit a chord with the crowd, and for the fifth time in her set, Lizzo had to take a pause for applause before continuing on and lifting the now slightly somber mood with her very own song about female empowerment- “Like A Girl,” which featured a brief flute solo.

The singer then went on to play her latest single “Tempo,” and bring a handful of fans on stage to twerk with her before ending the night with her two biggest hits, “Coconut Oil,” and “Juice,” in an encore that resulted in a several minute long ovation.

By the end of the night it was clear- Lizzo is a force to be reckoned with. And she will be changing pop music.
