Macklemore is not mincing his words.
Taking to social media earlier this afternoon, the rapper turned social activist uploaded a new track and video titled “fucked up.” – a direct call out of the American government and political affiliates who are contributing to the current downfall of socio-economic conditions both in America and on a global scale.
Opening with intersecting clips of people holding Palestinian flags, protesting ICE and other political regimes while celebrating their brief freedoms, the track starts heavy- making a direct statement about the country being on fire (both literally and metaphorically) and calling out the lack of control American’s seem to have over their own futures.
Going on to call out Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Netanyahu, all of whom have expressed open support of bombing Palestine and colonizing the land for their own personal gains, Macklemore explains to listeners how the rising costs of living in the States is directly tied to the global policies the current administration. From censoring social media feeds to rising taxes and rent costs, everything is interconnected, including all international decisions and the increasing power granted to unelected tech oligarchs.
And while the track is steeped in justifiable anger and frustration, it serves more as a call to action for fans- demanding they question their surroundings, their government, and the news they see.
We all only get one life to live on this planet, and we shouldn’t sit idly by while these horrors continue in front of our eyes.
This release comes less than a year after the rapper last called out the world’s highest political powers with the release of “HIND’S HALL” and “HIND’S HALL 2,” addressing the genocide in Gaza and America’s attempt at censoring related news.
Sharing his thoughts on international affairs, white supremacy, and the overwhelming hate that is being spread throughout the media though all of three of these releases, Macklemore demands a better future and gives listeners a reminder that change starts in our own hands.
You can listen to “fucked up.” now via Macklemore’s social media pages, and check out both “HIND’S HALL” and “HIND’S HALL 2” wherever you stream your music.
