Matte Blvck’s phenomenal new single “Bare” has struck the perfect balance between vulnerability and power, delving into the harsh realities of self image against a backdrop of stark, industrial beats. Join them on a journey to finding yourself through facing the inner demons that lie “amongst the beauty of [your] soul.”
The San Diego trio seamlessly blends elements of dark synthwave, electronic, and industrial genres to create their own unique sound, reminiscent of many renowned artists that came before them. In this song specifically, drums similar to “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails as well as a bouncy bassline akin to that of “Enjoy the Silence” by Depeche Mode align perfectly with crisp, modern sound design to create a track that brings nostalgia into the next century.
The mood of this song also runs parallel to “Enjoy the Silence” in that it feels darkly sacred and holy. The lyrics “You are your miracle” evoke this feeling, alongside the tolling of a sinister bell in the background.
As a fan of both Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode, I am very much obsessed with this song. It’s really no wonder they have ~9,000 monthly Spotify listeners. I’ve been listening to this track on repeat, and you should too.
You can stream “Bare,” now, and be sure to keep an eye out for their first album, “I’M WAVING, NOT DROWNING,” releasing soon.
