If you are looking for a new electro-pop collection to help you close out the last month of summer then look no further because May Have’s new EP “Misunderstood” has got you covered.
Released this past Friday, “Misunderstood” is the first collection to be released by the band since their 2018 self titled album, and features five tracks that will each instantly put you into a relaxed summer vibe- helping to eliminate any stresses, anxieties, and all memories of the absolute absurdity that is 2020.
Opening on the energetic and defiant “Circles,” the EP starts off on a high note, with playful synths and percussion providing an extremely catchy backing track and setting the tone for the rest of the album.
Moving into “L,” the energy continues with a bouncy and dream-like synth track playing up the honest and self aware lyrics. Discussing the band’s choice to always pursue what they love instead of doing things just to please others, “L” is a perfect reminder for listeners who may be battling similar feelings, and stresses the importance of doing it “for the love” above all else.
Then, with tracks “May Have (Misunderstood)” and “Home,” the EP takes a step down from the fun dance music and moves into slower, emotional territory. With the lyrics of “May Have (Misunderstood)” navigating a relationship that took a wrong turn overlaid by a fun dance beat, and “Home” providing soaring vocals through a romantic look at the feeling of being most comfortable around the one you love- both tracks help showcase the band’s range before picking it up one last time with the final track.
With the EP closing on the track “Summer,” which debuted last year and tackles the feeling of wanting a love that lasts beyond the hot summer months, “Misunderstood” closes out as an upbeat, bop filled EP that will have you imagining yourself relaxing by a pool and sipping a nice cold Mimosa before preparing to bundle yourself up for the upcoming fall.
