The world is in a state of unrest and this group of musicians are ready to take action.
With rampant police brutality increasing daily throughout the United States against Black and other minority communities, in addition to a growing animosity towards the LGBTQ+ population, social justice initiatives have nearly everyone asking “what can I do to help?” Which is exactly what the creators behind Moki Records asked themselves before creating their new compilation, “I Have a Mouth and I Must Scream.”
A 14 track collection of songs by a variety of artists spanning an array of genres, “I Have a Mouth and I Must Scream” debuted last night as a full length release available for streaming and purchasing on Bandcamp.
After witnessing and experiencing injustice in their daily lives, the team behind Moki Records and Florida based band Witchbender teamed up with 13 other artists to put together an album that confronts racial and homo/transphobic tensions head on; with each featured artist being members of the BIPOC, LGBTQ or ally communities.
In a statement made via their Bandcamp account, the label shared:
“”I Have a Mouth and I Must Scream” is a compilation of songs focused on anger at the current state of the world and the plight of police brutality aimed at black and LGBTQ people. Across the world, people are uprising, demanding that their local and national governments defund police departments and demilitarize their states. Humankind is begging the powers that be to end the genocide and enslavement of black and indigenous people across the globe and as we protest peacefully, we are met once again with more violence at the hands of militarized police forces.”

Opening with a spoken word track by Justin Fontes to set the tone of the collection, the album then launches into the first song by GILT, followed by songs by C0MPUTER, LETHE, Burn To Learn, Michael Seuss, BEARS, Witchbender, JOYEATER, Gillian Carter, Slig Meat, Wreath, Pseudo, and Gutless.
And while hearing from these artists is powerful on it’s own, as they each bring their full, raw emotional power to their respective tracks, the compilation was created as a fundraiser for Contigo’s All Black Lives Fund.
Created as a way to aid the community after the Pulse Nightclub massacre in 2016, The Contigo Fund is a Central Florida initiative to raise money and provide assistance to members of the Latinx, BIPOC and LGBTQ communities.
And while the project has been providing assistance to thousands of Latinx and LGBTQ Floridians since it’s creation, the initiate recently extended their reach to further allocate specific funds for the Black community through the creation of the All Black Lives Fund- a charity that will specifically aid transgender and other Black LGBTQ community members.
Now, for only $10, thanks to Moki and friends, fans can secure digital access to 14 powerful, intersectional, anti-racist and feminist tracks all while giving money to a cause that will help save the lives at a time when the world needs them most.
