When Morgan Keller released her single “Still Talk to You” last year, I knew she was going to be an artist to watch.
Quickly reminding us all of her talent just a few months later with her debut EP Glitter & Gold, which featured several relatable, powerhouse singles such as “Sympathy” and “Fight for Love,” Keller has spent the last year honing her craft and preparing to claim 2021 as her year.
And with her latest single “Old Habits” quickly making it’s rounds on social media, we’re thinking that is exactly what she is about to do.
A pop meets electo-track, “Old Habits” explores the process of trying to break out of your repetitive patterns- whether it be in regards to a relationship, an internal battle, or general behavior. Acknowledging that it is hard to kick these habits, and comparing the desires to ‘self sabotage’ to an addiction, the track plays like a fun and almost flirty single but touches on the more toxic aspects of these reflexes.
“On the surface the single appears to be about drunk texting an ex, but it captures underlying themes of perfectionism, regret, and the rush of these toxic cycles,” Keller shares. “[The song brings] sentiments of self-reflection and loneliness to life.”
Leaving us wanting to both scream sing the lyrics to ourselves with and start deleting those old phone numbers from our phones to cleanse ourselves of our bad histories, “Old Habits” is the perfect track to kick off the fall and leaves us eager for more new Morgan Keller music.
