When Morgan Keller released her second single “Still Talk to You” back in April, she immediately caught our attention as an artist we didn’t want to let slip off our radar.
And now, five short months later, Keller has once more caught our attention with the release of her debut EP Glitter & Gold.
Released this morning, Glitter & Gold features the previously released “Still Talk to You” and “Who’s There” alongside four new songs “Fight For Love,” “New York Sleeps Alone,” “Sympathy,” and “Feel Good Without You.”
With the powerful “Fight for Love” opening the EP on a strong note, Keller shows off her vocal range and a bit of edge as she sings about pursuing and working for a relationship that may not be worth it.
Following up with the funky and catchy “Who’s There,” the album takes a turn towards self love and acceptance as Keller reassures listeners that despite their inner brains telling them that they’re not good enough- they are beautiful and perfect just as they are. A reminder we can all use now and then.
Then taking a dive back into the romantic relationships, Keller’s banger of a single (and our favorite track on the EP) “Still Talk To You” navigates the process of breaking free from a toxic cycle or person who you may not be able to entirely break free off. Reminding herself she deserves better, Keller fights with her own desires about what the best move is over an intoxicating pop beat and with a chorus that is sure to get stuck in your head.
Then taking a moment to slow things down, the piano ballad “New York Sleeps Alone” comes in, showcasing Keller’s lower register. A heartbreaking recollection of being alone in a city that feels so large and lonely when you’re by yourself, this track will have listeners looking back on their own coldest nights and hoping for some quick warmth.
A self aware and biting pop track, “Sympathy” picks back up the pace while also continuing to pull at listener’s heartstrings- especially for anyone who has had a toxic friend in their life. An ode to standing up for yourself and calling out someone’s ulterior motives, “Sympathy” holds nothing back as Keller tells off someone who has used her as a shoulder to cry on but has never returned the favor. A sadly relatable song- this is an anthem you do not want to skip.
The EP then closes out on “Feel Good Without You” which is a breakup track for the ages. Whether it be a separation from a romantic partner or a platonic friend, this song is the perfect one to throw on as you hype yourself up and realize you’re better off on your own because despite what your brain may sometimes tell you: you’re worth a love that lasts and you deserve to be happy and free.
In all, Glitter & Gold is a beautiful but honest look into the reality of dating. With tracks about falling into a potentially unrequited love, loving yourself and breaking free from a toxic relationship, Keller uses the EP to give listeners a look inside of her own life while also giving them to find themselves in her tracks.
With beautiful pop melodies and easily danceable beats, the EP is the perfect debut release to showcase the singer’s range and perfectly set up the future of her career.
