Music Benefactors may just be the next big thing to happen to the music industry. And it is only just getting started.
Officially formed last year, Music Benefactors is a platform that allows fans and investors to become directly involved in the financial and business side of the music world, using crowdfunding to sell shares of artist’s companies, venues, labels and more in an effort to connect the varying parties on a deeper level and through a mutually beneficial relationship.
Through these partnerships, Music Benefactors allows independent artists or music related companies to remain completely independent from labels or restrictive management while also providing them the opportunity to raise up to $5 million a year solely from crowdfunding. As for for the fans turned investors, the platform allows them to reap rewards from the artists they support- including cuts of royalties and exclusive perks.
“Music Benefactors wants to be the go-to funding source for the music industry,” creator and CEO Matt Lutz shares. “We can structure favorable funding solutions for nearly any independent music business; recording artists, indie labels, music publishers, venues, producers and music technology businesses.”
“Music Benefactors gives artists the money needed to be truly independent. In the past, “independent” has meant not being signed to a major label and too poor to properly market music. We want artists to be well-funded independents with control of their music. Fans and investors help them accomplish this.”
Announcing their first partnership with Grateful Dead meets Latin fusion band, The Latin Dead, earlier this week, Music Benefactors and The Latin Dead are giving investors the first opportunity to become part of the band’s future. Aiming for a total investment of $160,000, the collaboration offers varying funding levels that allow for increased involvement in the band’s trajectory, ranging from shareholder to board member and with added perks such as backstage access and rehearsal visits.
And though The Latin Dead are the first and currently only artist to be partnered with Music Benefactor, the company has an email list that will alert investors to future opportunities, which you can sign up for here.
