“Fall” by Neck Deep
A surprise drop that came earlier this morning, this first new track is the latest from Neck Deep- the third and final single from their upcoming album “All Distortions Are Intentional,” which drops July 24th.
Titled “Fall,” the new song is a poppy anthem about falling in love. Similar to their last release “When You Know,” “Fall” takes listeners away from the band’s traditional punk sounds and leads them on a sonic journey into the world of ADAI, which is anticipated to be the band’s most experimental album to date.
And while the track is nothing like most of Neck Deep’s discography, it’s upbeat and happy lyrics are the perfect backing track to spring festivities, making the track a great escape from reality and helping to hype us up for their full release next month.
“Underground” by Shred Kelly
Written after their vocalist suffered a personal loss, “Underground” is a rock track that discusses feeling lost and confused during periods of high stress, especially during the middle of the night when you are alone with your thoughts.
And while the track’s lyrics are heavy in meaning, the instrumentals add a catchy beat and driving guitar melody help add a sense of hope.
“Anyone who has dealt with chronic stress will know that it can be debilitating,” The band shared. “ Just like a sad song can get you through a breakup, we hope that this piece can be a comforting anthem.”
“Underground” is available to stream now, and if you like what you hear be sure to check out the band’s upcoming album “Like A Rising Sun,” which debuts this Friday, June 19th.
“Queen Of My Mind” by Bellsavvy
“Queen Of My Mind” is the body positive anthem that we all needed this month.
Written after singer Bellsavvy went through some bodily changes that resulted in her losing her modeling career, the track reminds listeners that there is no benefit hyper focusing on the negative and instead encourages people to take control and become the controller of their own mind.
With a very aesthetically pleasing music video, the track features an-upbeat dance backing, which helps give the song a hyper and happy vibe, despite the unsettling backstory. It makes you want to move, shake and dance your way into a positive mindset, and is probably one of our favorite releases of the year.
“What’s New, Scooby Doo” (SKA Punk Cover) by Skatune Network
While this is technically not a *new song,* this cover deserves all of the attention.
Released Monday by Skatune Network, also known as Jeremy- a 25 year-old composer/trombone player who plays in the band We Are The Union– this Simple Plan cover reimagines the Scooby Doo theme as a Punk SKA song.
And though this song has been around for a long time, this SKA version livens it up, with Jeremy’s energy shining throughout the video and making it impossible not to dance along.
“New Girl” by Moscow Apartment
“New Girl” is a female empowerment anthem that stemmed from years of harassment and catcalling.
Turning their rage into a killer piece of music, Moscow Apartment released “New Girl” yesterday as the second single off of their upcoming EP “Better Daughter” which is set to drop July 10th.
With beautifully intertwining vocals from the band’s two frontwomen overlaying a catchy repetitive guitar riff, this track will have you bobbing your head along while also getting ready to fight every injustice you’ve ever experienced. And we love it.
“‘96 DiCaprio” by Jo MacKenzie
Jo MacKenzie may only be 16 years-old, but her new track “‘96 DiCaprio” is a love song that fans of all ages can relate to.
A classic pop song, the singer’s new release is all about an unrequited crush and the feelings that come with letting your imagination run wild with ideas of a future relationship.
A light, up-beat track, “‘96 DiCaprio” is a song you can’t help but smile while listening to, and makes us excited to hear more new music from the up-and-coming singer.
“Stranger” by Ben Kunder
A song that sounds nostalgic from the first chord, “Stranger” is the latest release by Ben Kunder, and the first single from his upcoming album “Searching For The Stranger.”
The track, which talks about searching for “the stranger,” is all about looking for something greater than your current existence. As for what Kunder believes the “stranger” is? Well, it’s the unknown.
“The stranger, from my upcoming album “Searching For The Stranger,” is the unknown, the different, the fight, the human connection we long for but haven’t yet experienced. The strange and weird that exists inside of us, the genetic makeup that we tend to hide but makes us who we are,” he shares.
“Searching For The Stranger” will be available October 2nd, but you can stream “Stranger,” now.
“Do You Hear Me Now?” by Mikoh
Released late May, this is the only track on the list that wasn’t released within the past two weeks. However- we firmly believe it is one worth listening to.
Written by Canadian singer-songwriter Mikoh, “Do You Hear Me Now” is a hauntingly beautiful track about navigating the path to self discovery- specifically after you feel you’ve lost yourself.
With electric piano and guitar rhythms driving the instrumentals behind Mikoh’s soft yet memorable voice, the song evokes feelings of helplessness and forces listeners to question themselves in the same way that Mikoh questions herself.
And as the third track from a collection of similarly sounding songs, “Do You Hear Me Now?” along with previously released “Afterglow” and “Bright Eyes,” has placed Mikoh on our radar, and we are looking forward to her future releases.
“Runner” by Val Astaire
Described by singer Val Astaire as a “heartbreak song on a summer night’s drive,” “Runner” is the epitome of a pop song that has a darker meaning.
While the song is up-beat with a catchy mix of electronic beats backing Astaire’s vocals, the lyrics discuss the toxic aspects of a relationship, and how no matter how much the two parties want to force themselves to say everything is fine, nothing is.
Coupled with the music video- which features a time lapse video of driving through downtown LA- the song achieves Astaire’s vision by placing the listener on that summer night’s drive and giving them the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the song.
“Runner” is the final single to be released prior to Astaire’s upcoming album “Fever Dreams,” which will be released later this year.
