Happy New Music Friday, everyone!
This week we have some new hits from artists such as Seaway, Violet Night, Petit Biscuit and more- with genres ranging from electronic to alt pop to indie rock.
So sit back, drive in and get ready to check out some of our favorite new tracks of the week.
Following “Big Vibe” as the second single off of their upcoming album, “Wild Things” is the latest song from Toronto based pop rock band Seaway.
An uptempo pop track, “Wild Things” navigates the feelings of falling carelessly in love and being swept up in the moment as you begin realizing that you and your partner may not be as perfect of a match as you once thought.
And though this track, like the previous single, is a departure from Seaway’s pop-punk sounds of the past, it is impossible not to smile while listening along. The catchy percussion line makes you want to dance from the first notes to the track’s last chord, and both songs leave us hopeful and excited for their new album.
“(if) you are the ocean (then) i would like to drown” by Violet Night
A song about playing with fire and becoming completely enveloped with someone, even if they aren’t the best fit, “(if) you are the ocean (then) I would like to drown” is the newest single from Violet Night.
As the band’s 4th new single of the summer and off of their upcoming sophomore album “A N T I H E R O E S,” “(if) you are the ocean” continues taking the band towards an edgier rock sound, a change up from the pop vibes of their previous album. With heavier guitar and a touch of distortion, the track makes you want to headband along- helping listeners get back in practice of being in a concert pit and getting them hyped up for whenever live music returns.
“Endlessly” by Yuki Dreams Again
Inspired by the endless cycle of searching for and craving the feeling of being loved, “Endlessly” is the latest single by indie pop artist Yuki Dreams Again.
Released this past Wednesday, “Endlessly” is an up-beat track that forces listeners to confront their own feelings about love, written after the singer decided to pack everything up and go on a reclusive cabin in order to unwind and work on creating new music.
“This song is about our quest as humans to find where we belong and what will fuel us on our journey,” the singer shares. “As Earth spins continuously and time doesn’t stop, love is what most of us find comfort in.”
“We do everything because of love. It is literally what makes the world go round.”
“Drivin Thru The Night” by Petit Biscuit
An electro pop song, “Drivin Thru The Night” is the latest release by French DJ Petit Biscuit, who uses the track to discuss feelings of isolation, finding love, and the idea of being better off alone.
Debuted this past Wednesday, “Drivin Thru The Night” was inspired by the singer’s own feelings of loneliness while in isolation in Iceland. Separated from friends and family, Petit Biscuit found himself desiring companionship while also realizing that this was the first time in a long time where he didn’t have to answer to anyone. He was completely free from both outside influence and judgement and used this realization to flip the script.
“Most people would also think they need love to exist but it’s wrong. You can live and exist by yourself. You don’t need anyone else,” the singer shared.
Ending the track on a voice recording of someone saying “Love isn’t the only thing that can make your heart beat… Freedom makes life worth living,” the song reminds listeners that being alone doesn’t have to be so bad.
A fun and catchy pop song about the difficulties of a long distance relationship, “Copenhagen” is the first single to be released by Canadian duo Airliners in four years.
Following their debut EP “Liftoff” in 2016, the band found themselves going separate ways until reconnecting earlier this year. And now, just two short months later the duo have released “Copenhagen” as the perfect re-introduction to their music.
With a very danceable beat, and catchy lyrics reminiscing on a love that is now across the sea, this track makes you want to groove and sing along before your first listen has even ended- making it the perfect track to listen to while swinging into the weekend.
Originally recorded for their recent album “Here and Now,” “Misplaced” is Finnish metal band Joviac’s latest stand alone single, inspired by frontman Viljami Jupiter Wenttola’s feelings of uncertainty and doubt following a breakup.
“‘Misplaced’ is a deeply personal song for me,” the vocalist shared. “I was dealing with a lot of guilt even though I was the one responsible for ending the relationship. So I painted this picture in my head of myself as some kind of villain, but ultimately it just came down to the fact that emotionally I wasn’t in the right place at the right time in my life.”
Through the track’s use of changes in tempo and intensity, using both guitar and percussion to add elements of drama and strength, listener’s can feel the lyrics instead of just hearing them- putting them in a place of better understanding the hurt and anxiety that fueled the track’s creation.
“Rude Boy Summer” by Casely and Braveboy
If you are looking for a song to hype you up and get you on your feet, “Rude Boy Summer” is the perfect track to throw on.
The latest song by Casely and Braveboy, “Rude Boy Summer” is all about embracing your youth and the summer heat in order to have the best time of your life. Starring the two performers alongside DJ Jessy ‘PeeWee’ Berrios and Influencer Karolina Achong, the track’s music video showcases the quartet embracing the fresh air and living it up in the best way possible- with flashy cars, loud music, and good vibes all around.
And before the official video ends, the duo made sure to pay tribute to some of their favorite DJs around the world who have been impacted by the COVID-19 shut down.
Though the clubs are currently closed, “Rude Boy Summer” is easily a contender for the club anthem of the year.
JEEN first made our playlist with the release of her catchy bop of a single “Deep End” earlier this summer, and now is once more making her way back with the release of her new song “Anything You Want.”
An indie rock track, “Anything You Want” is a reminder that you can achieve anything that you set your mind to. With JEEN’s unique vocals overlaid onto a steady percussion beat and guitar runs, the track exudes both confidence and a general air of uplifting positivity.
This track is perfect for anyone that is a fan of artists like Florence and the Machine or for someone who just likes music that is relaxed and easy going. A great way to wind down from a long week and remind yourself to keep a positive, open mindset.
