Just because Thanksgiving has now officially passed doesn’t mean we can’t close out the rest of the month by being thankful for the things in our lives. And what better to be thankful for than a slew of new music that has dropped over the past week and brought smiles to our lips and our ears.

That’s right, it is once more New Music Friday and we are here to share our top ten favorite tracks of the past seven days- featuring new music from some of our favorite classic artists as well as some new singers we just can’t get enough of.

“SUCKAPUNCH” by You Me At Six

You Me At Six gave us a special treat this Holiday week by releasing the title track off of their upcoming album SUCKAPUNCH.

A pop-rock song about standing up for yourself and growing from your past, the new single is an ode to fighting back and not letting yourself be beat down- something we could all use after what feels like a never-ending beatdown of a year.

With a pulsing electronic beat coursing throughout the background of the track coupled with You Me At Six’s traditional rock feel and powerful, empowering lyrics, “SUCKAPUNCH” is the lightest of the band’s recent releases and gives fans another look into what their upcoming album may sound like.

And though it’s clearly a stark difference from the band’s last album VI, this new track has us feeling hopeful the upcoming release is just as good- if not better.

“mars” by YUNGBLUD

A somber yet beautiful track about being authentic to yourself despite the world around you criticizing your life, “mars” is the latest single off of YUNGBLUD’s upcoming album WEIRD!

Inspired by a Trans woman he met at Warped Tour in 2018, “mars” is about growing up in a world where you are misunderstood and longing for a day when you can move away, start fresh, and be yourself without anyone questioning you or your choices.

With YUNGBLUD’s distinct vocals carrying the track over a steady electric guitar riff and percussion that fluctuates throughout the song, “mars” helps listeners of all background or struggles feel seen. Whether it be a struggle to come out, be accepted, or live true to yourself, the singer captures the feelings of hopeful uncertainty and a dream of an ideal life perfectly- leaving us even more excited than before to hear WEIRD! in full next Friday.

“Tightrope” by Josh Tavares

Josh Tavares first landed on our radar with the release of his single “Cheap Gold” earlier this year, and now he is back in our spotlight with the release of his new song “Tightrope.”

Released earlier this week, “Tightrope” is a soft ambient sounding song about battling internal demons while hiding them from the rest of the world- inspired by a friend of Tavares who was an expert at doing just that.

“I pressed record on my phone and the lyrics for this song pretty much spilled out, inspired by a friend who was going through a lot, but could hide it very well,” the singer shared. “It’s a conversation with yourself about the real emotions you have versus what you choose to show everyone around you.”

With smooth vocals, Tavares hits listeners in the heart as they reflect on their own struggles and acknowledge that they aren’t alone in their fights.

“In My Zone” by Bellsavvy

Bellsavvy is the queen of self confidence and making her listeners feel empowered- which she first showcased to us with her debut single “Queen of My Mind” earlier this year. And now, the rising star is back with yet another empowered track to get listeners moving.

Dropped this morning, “In My Zone” is a catchy, Latin inspired dance track about feeling yourself on the dance floor and letting loose while not letting anyone else get in your way.

Furthering the singers goal of promoting self confidence, empowerment, and living your truth, the new single is the perfect track to throw on as you prepare to dance off your holiday meals and get yourself in the spirit for a long winter.

“Criminals” by The Trusted

Self-described as “the most emotional song [The Trusted] have ever written” “Criminals” is the latest single by the British alt rock band.

Released this morning as the band’s first single to follow their EP Love and Suicide, which dropped earlier this year, “Criminals” gives fans a look into the band’s stripped down form, focusing heavily on the lyricism and vocals rather than heavy instrumental presence.

Using soft electronic beats to help move the song along, the track confronts feelings of “loss, heartbreak, guilt and self-absorption,” bringing listeners to both dive into the song’s verses and rethink their own heartbreaking experiences.

A track that makes you think and feel, “Criminals” is perfect for a cold winter night inside- and we are sure you’ll have it on repeat all winter long.

“Lost in Your Light” by Waiting for Smith

When Waiting For Smith imagines pure peace, he imagines it as being completely honest and open with someone, allowing yourself to be vulnerable and completely free of worries. This is what it would feel like to be “lost in someone’s light” – the same idea that has inspired his latest single “Lost in Your Light.”

A soft, acoustic driven track, “Lost in Your Light,” is about acknowledging your insecurities and anxieties, and realizing that despite the fact that not everyone is vocal about their struggles- we all are battling our own internal demons. And despite the isolation we may feel, none of us are actually alone and we may be able to find peace if we look outward and connect with those around us.

“This last year I’ve really been trying to listen properly,” the singer shared. “As so often we feel the need to fill in our own ideas of what people say to us, making it into a story that suits our worldview, or our image of the person. When you get truly lost in someone’s presence and the light in his or her eyes it’s how I imagine dying to be- you can find a true peace there.”

“moonlight” by Gillian Heidi

Another beautiful new release this week that focuses heavily on the smooth vocals of the track is the latest single from 16-year old, Gillian Heidi.

A fellow Boston native, Heidi has been on our ones to watch list since her song “high” debuted earlier this year, and after releasing several follow up singles over the past few months, she has proved to be a voice to remember- with her newest single “moonlight,” only solidifying that point.

With her traditionally soft yet distinct and soulful vocals carrying the song, “moonlight” is all about letting yourself be swept up in a relationship with someone else- someone who helps you brush away the pain and darkness and turn it into “moonlight.”

Through the vulnerability of the lyrics, the track expresses fear of falling apart and being unworthy of love but being reminded of your worth and value by your partner, who is always there to help you up after you’ve stumbled. Serving as a perfect reminder to appreciate those closest to you going into this holiday season.

“BL/FF” by MONOWHALES

An upbeat, fun dance ready track, “BL/FF” is the latest single by funky alternative trio MONOWHALES.

Standing for “better lovers/fake friends,” the band’s latest single may have dropped last Friday, but it’s so good we just couldn’t leave it out of this weeks lineup.

Yet another fantastic track for letting loose and feeling your self confidence skyrocket, “BL/FF” is an ode to relationships that aren’t meant to last past a one night stand. But for whatever reason, you can’t pull yourself away, even though you aren’t meant to be friends.

With a catchy rhythm that will make you begin dancing as soon as the beat kicks in and lyrics that will have you singing into your hairbrush while getting ready for a night out, this track is just pure energy in a song. You don’t need anybody else to make you happy- but there’s no reason not to have a little fun here and there. Just don’t expect to be friends afterwards.

“All The Small Things” by Madison Olds

Technically, the origin of this track is not new. It is a Blink-182 classic single that everyone- and we mean everyone, regardless of their musical preferences- knows. But what IS new is this fresh take on the 20 year old track by pop singer Madison Olds.

Putting a softer spin on her version, Olds slows the track down and strips away the electric guitar and bass in favor of an electronic beat and water droplet-esque effect. Turning the punk classic into a softer pop meets R&B inspired single, Olds shows off her vocal talents while also paying homage to some of her favorite musicians.

Perfect for fans of both Blink-182 and Olds to check out, as well as a great way to be introduced to either artist’s further catalogue, this cover is easily one of our favorite Blink covers to be released.

“Skills” by King Elle Noir

The last but absolutely not least track on our New Music Friday lineup this week is the heartbreaking “Skills” by King Elle Noir.

A performer who has years of musical experience under her belt, including penning tracks for icons such as Marie Osmond, King Elle Noir is an artist that you do not want to miss out on and we are shocked we hadn’t discovered her prior to today as she debuted her newest ballad, “Skills.”

A gut wrenching song about your partner lying to you and you catching them in the act, “Skills” is a piano driven track that confesses all of Noir’s inner feelings and how she feels hurt by her lover’s constant infidelity and the turmoil she has been put through.

With lines such as “if you had a heart it would break,” the singer cuts both the listener and the subject of the track deeply- evoking sadness through the use of her angelic vocals and moody melodies that could cause tears in the eyes of even the strongest fans.
