Alt-pop band Nightly are just two days away from the release of their new album night, love you and are once again treating fans to another album sneak peak byway of their new single “older.”
A soft ballad that’s driven by acoustic guitar and a light percussion beat, “older” is an ode to growing up and having doubts about how you have handled your life thus far.
From worrying about your educational success, romantic life (or lack there of) and your current career path- “older” touches on all of the scariest aspects of adulthood and perfectly encapsulates the feelings of anxiety and stress that come with overthinking.
Via comparing themselves to their parents, those around them and even the expectations that society seems to have for people of the same age, the band begins to navigate the reality of getting older and choosing an alternate career choice.
Have they made the right choices? Should they be at a different stage of their life than you are? Is something wrong with them? All questions that the band confronts head on through potent lyricism and beautiful melodies.
But just when the track has you questioning your own life, the final verse swoops in to reassure you that life isn’t always linear, and that just because one person’s chosen path is different than yours that doesn’t mean that you are doing anything wrong.
Getting older is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean it will always be easy- and that’s perfectly okay.
“older” is the sixth single to be released from the band’s upcoming album night, love you– which debuts this Friday and marks the band’s first full length release.
