Meet Päter- an up-and-coming multi-talented artist who has just released their debut EP.
While most of us have been spending quarantine dramatically staring outside begging for our lives to return to normal as we watch the world fall apart around us, Päter has put their mind to work- finding a way to stay busy and stay creative. Thus forming a 30 day songwriting challenge, where they set out to Tik Tok to share at least one snippet of a new song each day.
Then, at the completion of the challenge on May 3rd, the songwriter requested that fans of the challenge shout out the top five songs they wanted to see released on Spotify.
Two months later, “SOLE” was born.
Officially released July 29th, “SOLE,” is the first fully mixed collection of tracks released by the singer, who like several of our other favorite artists- cannot be defined by one genre.
Self produced over the past few months, “SOLE” gives listeners a look into the mind of Päter. Heavily influenced by aspects of daily life, including anxiety, sleep, the difficulty of writing a song every day, and their love for their local music community, “SOLE” is a reflection of what it means to be human and learning to accept and love the things you cannot change.
With tracks from the folk inspired “Dam, Damn,” to the Death Cab for Cutie inspired “PR (public relations),” “SOLE” has a track for fans of nearly all genres, all falling under the indie umbrella.
And with killer instrumental features from Päter’s friends Alex Purcell, Rob Purcell, May Akanuma and Kunle, the EP feels as though it was written, fleshed out and recorded over a year’s time as opposed to its short 2 month turn around.
And the EP isn’t the only cool release from Päter lately.
In addition to sharing their composition across several platforms, the singer also took to YouTube to provide fans with a bit more information about the EP- delving into each track and explaining the process behind writing and producing the whole collection.
You can stream the whole EP now, check out an exclusive bonus track on BandCamp, and check out the full 30 days of music over on Päter’s Tik Tok for more musical content.
