A three piece band made up of vocalist Justin Stubbs, and instrumentalists Josey Stines and Jacob Ortengren, Chasing Apparitions are an up-and-coming heavy metal band from Indiana.

With only one EP under their belt, the band have seen steady success, amassing over 15 thousand Spotify fans since their 2016 debut- despite their brief hiatus between their first release and their upcoming EP “Am I Worth Saving?”

Now, fresh off their recent single “Memento Mori,” we had the opportunity to chat with the band as the latest edition of our Quarantine Questionnaire series to learn more about their latest music, their plans for the return to “normal” and how they are staying busy during this neverending year.

You can read our full interview with Jocey Stines below and catch up with Chasing Apparitions via the social media links at the bottom.

Second Society Report: How are you holding up during this insane year that is 2020? Hopefully your friends and families are staying safe and healthy!

Josey Stines: We’re just using the time that we have to work on making this release our best yet & we’ve got a head start on the next batch of songs we’re going to be releasing.

SSR: Did you have any big releases or tours that were put on hold because of the pandemic? How has that affected the band? (could be personally, financially, morale wise, etc.)

JS: I would’ve loved for Chasing Apparitions to have had the chance to play a couple shows this year & a CD release show. We’ve just decided to use this time to promote online & work on our presence there.

SSR: How have you been spending your newfound “downtime” while the world has been essentially shut down?

JS: We’ve all just been working a bunch so we have more money to put towards this release.

SSR: Have you picked up any new hobbies while quarantining that you’d like to share?

JS: I’ve really enjoyed playing Apex Legends on PS4.

SSR: Have you worked on any new releases during this time? Any that are already out or that we can get a sneak peak of?

JS: We’ve dropped 2 singles off of our next release with a 3rd one, titled “Memento Mori” coming out this past Friday. Our sophomore EP, “Am I Worth Saving?” will be released shortly afterwards.

SSR: What was the inspiration for the release?

JS: This release is about death, mortality, & struggling to cope when you don’t believe in an afterlife.

SSR: How has it been being an artist in a time when you cannot tour? How have you been working to promote your music and expand your reach?

JS: Not being able to tour isn’t really that big of a problem with Chasing Apparitions as the band is scattered. We’ve been posting frequently on all of our socials & running ads doing everything we can think of to push us forward.

SSR: Do you have any words of advice for fans that are feeling particularly bummed out about the live music world coming to a halt?

JS: Just hold on. Everything is chaotic now. Listen to health officials. Be safe. It’ll all fix itself soon.

SSR: When the world returns to a safer spot and we are able to (hopefully) attend live shows again- say in 2021- what do you hope to achieve?

JS: I would love to play a show at the Hoosier Dome with the boys in Soulseeker & Relics.

SSR: Is there anything you wish your fans would know about you or about the current state of the music world?

JS: Music was one of the first things to go away & music will be one of the last things to come back. Be safe. Listen to health officials. Make sure to stream your favorite artists.
