2020 is rapidly coming to a close.

Finally we are able to begin to shake free from the hectic year and begin our journey into the new year with new awarenesses and goals. As well as a sense of hope that potentially can take us all into a better future.

But, that being said- now, as we look back at the past year and the future days to come, there has been one major element missing from our day to day lives that remains uncertain as our calendars prepare for their yearly change. And that is the presence of live music.

Completely shut down (save for a few outdoor shows here and there) around the globe, the entertainment industry has suffered a blow that has caused many artists and workers to question their futures in a field that was destroyed nearly overnight by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, despite the constant uncertainty and emerging news of a second strain of the virus, countless musicians are putting their concerns to the side in a fight to stay optimistic and stay connecting with their fans. One such artist being the UK’s own Dean England.

After releasing his debut EP Feel, Think, Do earlier this year, England has been hard at work releasing new social media content and cover tracks, as well as working on his future original works.

Using his year “off” to hone his craft, England took some time to chat with us about how he is handling the pandemic and how he hopes to continue on with his music after the virus subsides.

You can read our full interview below, and be sure to stream his new EP, out now.

Second Society Report: How are you holding up during this insane year that is 2020? Hopefully your friends and families are staying safe and healthy!

Dean England: We are all cool. Everyone is just fine. It’s been a mad year but there’s still positives and I have found a lot more time to play and write this year.

Second Society Report: Did you have any big releases or tours that were put on hold because of the pandemic? How has that affected the band? (could be personally, financially, morale wise, etc.)

Dean England: Release came out September in the middle of it all ha ha. Not a great time but you keep going you know. I had 10 live shows have to cancel due to this so that was a bummer but as things move forwards we will see what happens and fingers crossed we will get back to it.

Second Society Report: How have you been spending your newfound “downtime” while the world has been essentially shut down?

Dean England: Drinking! Ha no am only joking although I have had a few more beers then normal. But mainly writing and getting ready for a new single next year that I am really excited about.

Second Society Report: Have you picked up any new hobbies while quarantining that you’d like to share?

Dean England: Not really guys, just becoming a better writer and performer although I have been reading quite a bit.

Second Society Report: Have you worked on any new releases during this time? Any that are already out or that we can get a sneak peak of?

Dean England: Here’s the Spotify link for the new EP Feel, Think, Do. I do have a new single I am working on but no sneak peaks you cheeky devils ha ha. It will be out next year and it’s going to go off. It will be a sound that brings back blues and rock to the forefront but sounds modern.

Second Society Report: If already out- what was the inspiration for the release?

Dean England: The inspiration for the release was just to start the journey. I am ready, my sound is ready and I was born to do this.

Second Society Report: How has it been being an artist in a time when you cannot tour? How have you been working to promote your music and expand your reach?

Dean England: Yes I have been doing lots on the socials, a few live streams, lots of posts and everything I can to create a buzz. Here’s the Facebook page. Please give us a follow and some love, and here’s our Instagram for those of you who would love a good old photo.

Second Society Report: Do you have any words of advice for fans that are feeling particularly bummed out about the live music world coming to a halt?

Dean England: Stay strong. We can’t have a world without live music. To me that’s no world at all. We will stand and dance again in the rain. We will spread love and share energy and we will all be together again for that perfect note in the perfect song at the perfect location.

Second Society Report: When the world returns to a safer spot and we are able to (hopefully) attend live shows again- say in 2021- what do you hope to achieve?

Dean England: I am going to play the shit out of the UK. I will have a few singles out and the EP and it will be good times and blessings.

Second Society Report: Is there anything you wish your fans would know about you or about the current state of the music world?

Dean England: I believe in myself so believe in me. I believe in you all and that this world will know love over hate and light will win over dark.

Peace and love to you all. And thank you guys for the interview.
