Our favorite Canadians are at it again.

After just releasing their debut album “Logos” back in September, Selfish Things have released more new music- this time, a special holiday cover of “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).”

Originally performed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” was released in 1971, written as a protest song against the Vietnam War.

And in theme with the original, the Selfish Things version also features a political message about the epidemic of homelessness among indigenous persons in Canada.

Along with the track, the band released a music video, created by their friend and collaborator Miguel Barbosa. The video features various facts about indigenous youth in Canada, including statistics of homelessness, suicide rates and a link to donate to the Urban Native Youth Association- an organization dedicated to finding creative outlets for kids and teens and helping them on a path to success.

And if that wasn’t enough of a reason to love the new version of the song, Selfish Things’ version also featured a special guest: frontman Alex Biro’s 8-year-old daughter, Rowen.

You can listen to the song now wherever you stream music, and if you’d like to donate to UNYA, follow this link.
