The long awaited debut EP from Boston quartet Shallow Pools is here. Headspace houses all the singles the band has released this past year.
Alongside releasing Headspace the band also dropped a video for their single “Gardens” which focuses heavily on themes of growth and finding ways to kick cynicism. “Gardens” encompasses the mixed feelings of getting older and coming to terms that chance isn’t always bad. The video tells a story of looking back on the past in both pride and some longing for those days.
Each track that makes up Headspace represents a different moment in life and stands as a reflection of what their members were going through at that specific time in their lives. From learning to accept yourself, feeling trapped by your anxieties, falling in love, moving on from a toxic relationship, and the fears of getting older, this EP does not shy away from being honest.
Shallow Pools chose to release Headspace at the start of Pride Month because of their outspokenness as members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as advocates within the music community. The band have been able to garner an audience through crafting fun dreamy pop music for all to enjoy while standing for visibility and expressing your true self.
The band’s unique style of synth-forward dream pop brings a new energy to the indie pop scene, and Headspace offers itself as a great representation of this moment in time for the band.
