German band, Silent Attic, headed back to the studio this year to create their latest release, “Take My Time.”
Heavily influenced by the Arctic Monkeys as well as The Strokes, it’s easy to hear the impact they have made on their music. Instead of heading into a more (soft) experimental sound, which both the Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes are known for, Silent Attic seems to be moving in the opposite way. Changing their style from atmospheric indie rock to garage and post punk.
Formed in 2018 Silent Attic made their musical debut with their album, Late Night Talks the following year. Gaining a large following after this release, Silent Attic toured Germany and saw many of their shows quickly sell out as their music extended beyond their inner circles.
While stay at home orders have been put into place around the globe and live concerts were put on an indefinite hold, Silent Attic continued making new music.
The band began spending time covering multiple other artists and working on new releases, always recorded at their own homes to emphasize the importance of staying safe in this trying time.
Their latest release, “Take My Time,” is a return to their roots. While maintaining the sounds of their predecessors, they have reinvented themselves. Instead of falling into the most common trope: punk bands that eventually fall victim to a mellow sound, they are moving into a garage sound. Between the steady drum beat, the varying guitar riffs, and Eros Atomus Isler’s raspy voice, the single moves in the direction the band is trying to go into.
Being influenced by some major indie-punk staples has helped them create their sound but they have found their own voice. Instead of relying too much on their heroes of that genre, their move in a different direction has helped them immensely. While other musicians tend to depend too much on their idols, Silent Attic moves further. Taking the risk by finding a unique sound, the band moves on to create something soothingly post-punk and refreshing.
