Sleep On It is no more.

Following the allegations made last month against Neverkept lead singer Dorian Cooke, and subsequent stories of misconduct made against members of the Chicago based band, Sleep On It have announced that they will be stepping away from music in order to learn and “heal” from their past mistakes.

“After discussing amongst ourselves, we have decided it is best for us and the community to end Sleep On It,” the band wrote. “We will be taking this time to put in the work to better ourselves and each other, and to do everything we can to heal the pain we have caused. Part of that healing process is listening.”

TRIGGER WARNING: Sexual assault and misconduct.

This news comes just a little under two weeks after news broke that Cooke had assaulted a mutual friend of the bands prior to Neverkept and Sleep On It’s tour earlier this year.

In the following days several other accounts began speaking out about their experiences with both Cooke and Sleep On It, sharing that SOI knew about Cooke’s history and that they themselves were at fault in several cases of misconduct.

Former partners of frontman Zech Pluister and drummer Luka Fischman also spoke out sharing their stories of emotional abuse at the hands of both men, in addition to several people calling out racism on behalf of guitarist Jake Marquis.

Following the announcement of the allegations against Sleep On It on August 27th, Equal Vision Records quietly removed the band from their roster, moving them to their “alumni” list,” but not before the band’s manager Buck Foley also found himself in hot water after publicly supporting the band and saying that victims should have “come to [him]” instead of posting online.

This new band statement follows one posted last week in which the band absolved themselves of fault claiming they didn’t know “the extent” of the accusations against Cooke.

“We would like to acknowledge that our initial response was inadequate,” the band shared. “Our intent to show public support for Fran and survivors overshadowed our ability to listen and reflect, and for that we are truly sorry for the pain that we have caused.”

“We apologize to anyone else who has been affected by our actions, our inactions, and for betraying the trust you had in us. We hope that you don’t discount any comfort or community you may have found through our music when you needed it.”

As of now, neither Cooke nor Neverkept have made any statements regarding the allegations, and they remain listed as a featured artist on Epitaph Records’ home page.

UPDATE as of 6:10pm on Sept. 4: Epitaph have removed Neverkept from their website and have tweeted at several fans announcing the band’s removal. No official statement has been made.
