Slow Dress is Katie Solomon and Brendon Jones, a duo from Boston making dark, confessional rock.
Today sees the release of “Back into my Body,” the third in a series of singles the band recorded with producer Colin Pastore, known for his work with such acts as Lucy Dacus and boygenius. The song explores the sensation of returning to presence and comfort in one’s body in the wake of trauma.
“Back into my Body” opens with somber keyboard and quickly evokes the cold of winter. Solomon reflects upon the dramatic changes that have occurred over the past couple of years to bring her to this point. “Trauma takes the fire out of life,” she sings as textured synths enter the background. Yet, earlier, she remarks, “I’m laughing at least a couple times a day.” It’s a slow process, but simple expressions of joy are some of the most grounding.
The single is intensely personal for both members, as Brendon Jones continues to undergo treatment for cancer. Yet, for all of the weight it carries, “Back into my Body” stands as a celebration of the connection between the spirit and the body, and between the body and the outside world.
“Back into my Body” invites us to eagerly await Slow Dress’ upcoming singles. You can further support them and stream their singles now, wherever you stream music.
