Soft sounding songs about romance and heartbreak. What could possibly be bad about that?

Nothing. And thus, we dedicate this week’s Song of the Week to a very special band known as This Wild Life.

Specifically their song “Headfirst” from their new album “Petaluma.”

If This Wild Life is known for anything, it is for taking heartbreaking lyrics and setting them to soft ukulele riffs and light drums. Which is exactly what “Headfirst” does.

With lyrics describing the end of a relationship resulting in heartbreak and the hard process of moving on, the song features powerful vocals and is very driven by the string features, instead of the drums.

10/10 recommend a listen!

Artist Bio:

An acoustic duo from Long Beach, California, This Wild Life is made up of lead singer and guitarist Kevin Jordan and drummer Anthony Del Grosso.

After getting their start in 2010 as a pop-punk band, formed by members of the now defunct The Messenger, This Wild Life transitioned from a full band to an acoustic duo after realizing their acoustic songs had more of an effect on their fans.

The band released their first and only pop-punk EP “Heartflip” in 2012, and in 2014 released their first full length acoustic album “Clouded.”

Then, in summer 2018 the band released their third full length album, “Petaluma” and are currently headlining the Petaluma Tour alongside Sleep On It, Crooked Teeth, and Hold Close.

You can catch This Wild Life in Boston when they hit The Middle East Downstairs next Monday, April 22nd.

And be sure to check out their album “Petaluma” wherever you stream music.
