Sophia Annello’s latest single is a family affair.

“When We Are Young,” which released earlier this month, is the newest single by the rising indie star and features her younger brother Nico as a beautiful tribute to childhood nostalgia and a longing for the past.

A smooth, folk inspired single, “When We Are Young” recounts the duo’s memories of growing up together, sharing anecdotes of comforting each other through the good and the bad times.

Asking listeners if they would choose to go back to the ‘good old days’ of their youth, the track forces you to rethink your own history and how it differs from where you are now- as well as encouraging you to acknowledge the people who helped get you to your current position in life.

And coming after nearly a year of global uncertainty as all of our lives have been put on an indefinite hold following the COVID-19 pandemic, this track hits especially hard for anyone who finds themselves feeling lost in nostalgia.

“With all that is going on in the world I think most people can relate to reminiscing about simpler times,” Annello shared.

Beginning her songwriting career at the age of 13, Annello made her streaming debut in 2018 with her EP Runaway.

In 2019, Annello was named as one of NPR’s “North Texas’ 20 Under 20,” and over the past year has found success as her single “Falling” went viral on TikTok.

Now with her latest single receiving over 15 thousand listens since it’s debut, it’s clear that Annello’s career is just beginning and is sure to skyrocket from here.
