2021 is set to bring on a new wave of emo music, and emo trio Stars Hollow is at the forefront of helping define what that will look like.

After gaining recognition after the release of their 2018 EP Happy Again, many waited with bated breath to see what would come next for the emo trio. What came was their debut album I Want to Live My Life released earlier this month.

I Want to Live My Life stayed true to the sound and lyrical ability that received Stars Hollow recognition on the Happy Again, but explored a more personal and emotional journey.

Tyler Stodghill (guitar, vocals) shared on twitter his thoughts on the process it took to bring this record to life, saying “this record allowed me to examine the most pained parts of me.”

The album opens with the lyrics “I want to live my life, but I’ll be here waiting” but closes with the lyrics “I want to live my life, but better / I’m tired of waiting.” This callback shows the change in mindset having explored these emotions and now finding the motivation to heal and grow from them.

The sharp, jagged vocal delivery accompanied by deep melodic guitars and finding the balance between rollicking breakdowns and gentle interludes, Stars Hollow has found their place in helping define the current wave of the emo scene.
