There is nothing more synonymous with the city Chicago than the band Fall Out Boy. At least if you are in any way familiar with the iconic emo band’s deep love for their hometown and subsequent ten plus tracks that give it a shout out.
And therefore, it should be no surprise that this past weekend when Chicago’s biggest alternative music festival rolled into town, Fall Out Boy was destined to make an appearance in one way or another. And this time homage was paid by none other than State Champs.
Adding a classic track to their setlist amidst the mix of their own old and new songs, State Champs honored the scenes founders by taking their own stab at “Chicago Is So Two Years Ago,” one of Fall Out Boy’s oldest, yet most classic of releases.
Staying true to the original tone and pace of the original track, but freshening it up with Champs’ modern pop punk flair, the cover helped keep energy high at both Riot Fest and on social media, as fans caught wind of the cover and begged for the band to release an official version.
And so they did- just in time to get fans hyped up even more for their October tour.
You can stream the cover track now, and be sure to check out State Champs’ latest singles “Outta My Head” and “Just Sound”- streaming now.
