Frozen Fest 2019 was easily one of the best shows of the year. With curators and New York pop punk legends State Champs serving as both the organizers and the headlining act, the two day festival brought fans from all over to see some of their favorite musicians, connect with others, and experience one of their final shows of the year in a local venue turned winter wonderland.

And though 2019 was the first Frozen Fest, the band promised to continue on with the newfound tradition. That is until 2020 shut down the live entertainment industry indefinitely.

But instead of letting the pandemic completely ruin their plans and put an end to the tradition, the band decided to continue the Frozen Fest hype by taking the show online and launching Frozen Fest 2020 via Twitch.

Starring the band’s four members, the stream began with some casual introductions before launching into the band’s first track of the night- an acoustic rendition of their single “Frozen.”

Following the music came the opening of Christmas cards, where the band shared some of the special messages fans had sent to their P.O. Box, including a card from 8-year old Hallie, who shared that she had been a fan for “3 or 2 years” and wanted to learn how to “play drums” and “sing high and low notes” from the band.

One fan also challenged the band to take shots, which garnered a cheers between the band- as well as a quick review of the Twitch terms of service which quickly put a stop to a brief “shots for subscribers” game.

“Cheers to 2021 being better than 2020, everybody,” vocalist Derek DiScanio shared.

Throughout the two and a half hour stream the band played a variety of acoustic tracks, including their new single “A Thousand Hearts,” featuring an appearance from Saxl Rose, as well as “Crystal Ball,” “Easy Enough,” “Mistletoe,” (a Justin Bieber cover), and lastly “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays (an *NYSNC cover).

The band also dedicated time during the Festival to encourage donations, all of which will be donated the Regional Food Bank Northeastern in New York- the same charity that they collected non perishables for during last year’s in person event.

If you missed the stream, you can catch up with State Champs weekly during their Wednesday Twitch streams, as well as via social media to stay up to date on all future streams, events and music.

And for those who did manage to make the stream, we wish you all a very “happy girlfriend.”
