The Blue Stones are ready to take 2021 by storm with the announcement of their sophomore album and a brand new single.
Released this past Friday, “Spirit” recounts the feeling of having two different desires fighting for control. One fighting or what you want to do/have, and the other fighting for what you think you should want/have- rarely meshing together.
“I’ve always felt a little torn between two selves. The person who does what he should, and the other who does what he wants,” frontman Tarek Jafar shares. “It’s ping pong for the psyche, and I’ve played it extensively this past year. I’d like to consider myself a normal, contributing member to society; and that’s only true because I let myself indulge in the ‘wants’ every now and then. That’s what letting your spirit play is.”
Using a mix of grunge inspired grit coated in alternative rock groove, the track captivates listener’s from the first beats.
And though the track’s messaging is about being conflicted between to choices, the perfectly produced guitars melded with the intoxicating percussion lines make the urge to get up and dance seems like a no brainer. No decision making needed.
“Spirit” is also the latest single to be release off of the band’s recently announced and eagerly anticipated sophomore album, Hidden Gems.
Set to drop March 19th, Hidden Gems will showcase the band’s growth since their 2018 debut Black Holes. Exploring new soundscapes, lyrical depth and breaking the supposed genre boundaries.
“I really want these songs to capture people’s attention,” percussionist Justin Tessier confessed. “I want them to understand that The Blue Stones are a force.”
