The Jonas Brothers recently surprised fans by releasing a new Christmas song, “I Need You Christmas.” The song released at midnight on October 29^th, just in time for the early Christmas celebrations we’ve all pretty much mutually agreed to this year. 

The title of the song alone is a win. We really need Christmas. Especially after the year we’ve all experienced, the holiday season might finally be our chance at some happiness. If you’re like me, I’ve been saying I need Christmas since the end of summer. In a Tweet from their band account, the Jonas Brothers explained perfectly why they chose to release this song now and surely follows the sentiments of many of their fans.

“With having such a crazy year, we all really need something to look forward to,” the band wrote. “The Holidays is a time that brings us together and is something that brings us joy in the darkest of times.”

For us this song stirs up memories of childhood snowball fights & finding the nearest hill to sled. It brings us back to spending time with family setting up the Christmas tree. Hopefully it can bring you guys the same feelings of warmth & happiness that creating it brought us ❤️

The cover art of “I Need You Christmas” is a childhood throwback photo of the brothers, huddled in front of a Christmas tree in matching, plaid pajamas. It’s a great bonus for fans and the brothers shared even more throwback holiday photos on Twitter that include their youngest brother Frankie and other members of their family. 

The piano and strings that start off the song and continue throughout get you in the mood right away and are reminiscent of classics like “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland.” This is definitely a Christmas song that caters to emotion rather than light-hearted fun but the beat is quite catchy and distinct. Overall, a well-executed marriage between the Jonas style we all love and the nostalgia of Christmas we also love. 

“I Need You Christmas” is a mix of a deeply personal story, anthem, and prayer that we can all surely get behind. It’s a reminder of all the joys we have to look forward to during the holidays with our family and friends. And it doesn’t matter if you’re young or old because the holidays are for everyone to enjoy. 

Nick and Joe do a nice job with the vocals, their usual perfect harmonizing. Their brotherly bond really brings extra power and warmth to the song overall. Some key lyrics to look out for include,  “I need you, Christmas, friends by the fire to hold, times have been lonely, and lately, I just feel alone” and “if you’re young, if you’re old, we all wait to be told, just a simple phrase, Have a Merry Christmas.”
