BLACKPINK have secured their spot on the Billboard 200 and shattered records while getting there.

After releasing their first English language LP THE ALBUM at the beginning of this month, the South Korean quartet have broken a 12 year record as their album debuted at the #2 spot on the Billboard 200.

As the first all female group to achieve this high of a debut since Danity Kane’s Welcome To The Dollhouse in 2008, BLACKPINK sold over 110,000 units within their first week of sales, marking the highest first week of sales for a K-Pop group’s debut album in music history.

A rising sensation with K-Pop and general music fans alike, BLACKPINK debuted in 2016 with their EP SQUARE ONE, and have gained widespread notoriety for their catchy beats, choreographed dances and overall aesthetic.

With their song “DDU-DU DDU-DU” gaining popularity across the seas, BLACKPINK began to become a household name as they released their debut Korean album BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA in 2018.

Now, two years later the group have honed their sound and made their way to the charts with their entirely English release THE ALBUM.

With features from artists such as Selena Gomez and Cardi B, THE ALBUM has further solidified the group as a force to be reckoned with and have fans eagerly awaiting their next release to see just how much they skyrocket from here.

You can stream THE ALBUM out now wherever you stream music, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for BLACKPINK’s Netflix documentary Light Up The Sky, out Wednesday.
