September 22nd, 2009, an emo band named The Academy Is… released their final EP titled Lost In Pacific Time. Two short years later, on October 10th, 2011, the band announced that they would be disbanding after just under a decade together.
Then, in an unexpected turn of events, on September 12th, 2015, The Academy Is… made their long awaited return- taking on a full United States tour in celebration of the ten year anniversary of their debut album. That is until December 31st, 2015, The Academy Is… took the stage for the last time.
Until now.
After seven full years of radio silence, The Academy Is… made a surprise return this past Wednesday with the announcement that they were officially “back” and playing this year’s Riot Fest.

Fans first begin to suspect the band, who are notorious for teasing reunion-esque content on social media, was up to something late last month, after their seemingly abandoned social media pages all began to change their profile pictures and post nostalgic content about the band’s beginnings.
Then, after a few weeks of nothing, the official Riot Fest pages sent fans once more into a spiral, as a lineup teaser video featured an 8-bit version of the band’s popular track “Slow Down.” Only announcing about 24 hours later that the band was in fact part of the 2022 lineup, alongside fellow Emo greats Yellowcard and My Chemical Romance.
Now the real question is, what does “back” mean? Should we be bracing ourselves for new music for the first time in 13 years? Is there going to be a full tour announced soon? We’ll just have to wait to find out, but in the meantime, catch up on The Academy Is…’s full discography below and be sure to follow them on social media for the most up to date information and surprises.
