Wednesday was a snowy afternoon in Worcester, Massachusetts, but the acoustic sounds of Brent Smith and Zach Myers helped us all escape from the impending winter chills.

Headlining the Palladium’s downstairs music hall, the duo known as Smith & Myers joined openers JR Moore and Zach Mack for a night of acoustic covers, nostalgic tunes, and an overall sense of community that the past year had been lacking.

Best known for their roles as one half of Shinedown, Smith & Myers kept fans on their toes throughout the night, with a well mixed set that varied each night of their multi-state tour. Opening Wednesday’s set with “Rebel Yell” by Billy Idol, and featuring other hits such as “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse, “She Talks To Angels” by The Black Crows, and “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd, the band mixed in quite a few covers, while also adding Shinedown fan favorites “Second Chance” and “Sound of Madness,” between original Smith & Myers tracks.

And while the duo remained entertaining and engaging throughout their set- it is clear that Smith & Myers are not trying to out-do their full rock band counterpart. If you have seen Shinedown live before, you know the band delivers a high-energy show. But Smith and Myers approach the stage with a more laid back attitude. During the show, the audience really interacted with the band, by shouting out songs they wanted to see be performed and voting on which song to play next. It was lovely, not only watching Smith & Myers play songs they love but watching the exchanges they gave each other. You could tell they are great friends who are playing music together solely for the love of the craft.
